Laser Welder

Wellspring engineers have 15 years of laser welding experience. We support our customers in process and product development projects including manufacture of custom equipment to help them manufacture medical devices. Wellspring designed and manufactured a customised Laser Welder for a client to bond catheter balloons (both PET & Nylon balloons) of 1.5 mm diameter x 8mm length to 25mm diameter x 40mm length.

The laser welder incorportes a Synrad CO2 laser. Wellpring designed and manufactured the control systems and all saftey functions. The laser itself is mounted on a manually adjustable traverse carraige so that both the proximal and distal bonds of a balloon (up to 200mm length balloons) can be completed on a single laser welder. The laser welder can readily produce 300+bonds per shift and is fully CE marked. Our experience of catheters and laser welding in particular permitted us to design the laser with features that lend the laser operation to efficient operation.
